presidential debate last week. they saw mitt romney going toe to toe with president obama and so now is another chance they think for the american people to say mitt romney filling out the role as commander in chief and laying out his foreign policy principles and then after the speech is over he will be meeting in a round table with a group of retired generals. again, another one of those images that the campaign would like to put out there of mitt romney as commander in chief. just to talk a little about what you and wolf were talking about a few moments ago, you go into the excerpts and you can take away a few different things. i was listening to a call yesterday and you just mentioned the situation in syria and they were talking about this idea of providing arms to the rebels in syria as an idea that would appeal to the left as to people who look at this from a humanitarian standpoint, and so it was interesting to hear the romney campaign talk about that issue from this standpoint. the other thing they raised on this conference call and that you also see in the excerpts is this i

in depth look all week long at latinos in america, which is a key voting bloc in this election. this is the latest cnn orc poll of latino voters. president obama, the clear favorite over mitt romney, leading 70% to 26%. you can fairly say that's not even close and it is well outside the margin of error and that's critical because you know there is a saying that there is power in numbers. at least 12.2 million people expected to show up at the polls on election day. but that's barely half of latinos who are eligible to vote. and it could come down to location, location, location. the hispanic vote could be the deciding factor in several states, including the swing state of nevada. which is where miguel marquez takes us in the battle to win their vote. >> reporter: it might sound like mexico. but this is the fight for the white house. welcome to washo county, nevada, the front line in this battleground state. washo county's 250,000 voters are expected to decide whether the nevada goes blue or red. and latinos, about 30,000 votes here, could make the critical difference in a race

president obama will get snippy. >> well, i don't think, barack obama is a very controlled political type. he knows what to do when the pressure is on. we've seen in the last few weeks. i would say this. i started the whole career at 30 something years plus ago in political debate. i would look for what we call a spring board. and that is to take the things they're talking about all are in the past. if i remember mitt romney, i would move this into the future, the impact of the legislation we've seen and what impact it will have on the future in the next four years versus what he offers in the next four years. i haven't heard enough of that. and if you've seen romney come out quickly with answers, there are one, two, three, enumerated that sounds like real ideas and proposals, she'll appear to be a lot more of a together candidate than we've seen in the past. if he comes out the way he's been generally speaking trying to get obama upset, obama's not going to bite for it. he needs to be really concise, enumerate and one zinger, not a bunch of them. >> thanks so much. >> thank you so m

our top story of the day, maybe the week. the latest on the jobs numbers out from the labor department, the unemployment rate unexpectedly, quite unexpectedly, actually, falling to 7.8 last month. that's first time that it dropped below 8% since president obama took office. on top of that, employers added 14,000 jobs during september. the expectations were around 110,000. and so the numbers that were really lousy back in the summer were also revised upward too. it is a bitf an icing on the cake story. the employers added 86,000 more jobs in july and in august than the department had initially estimated. before i go into more than that, more on that, i want to jump over to the president. he's live on the stump now in fairfax, virginia, at george mason university. clearly a friendly crowd, not only behind him, but in front. let's listen to what he has to say. perhaps he'll talk about jobs. >> thank you. thank you so much! thank you. thank you. everybody have a seat. have a seat. thank you. well, it is good to be here. i am so proud to have catherine's support. can you give her a big roun

are the people who are excited and especially going into the last five weeks of the campaign. mitt romney needs that big time. >> i'm not sure, dana, how much this plays into everything. but when barack obama is on the campaign stump, some of the things that he uses are very effective with the audience. he gets a lot of feedback from that campaign stump. and when he brought that game into that auditorium last night and started to talk about things like, you know, like ending tax breaks and getting people back to work, it seemed like those things backfired with a very powerful mitt romney standing next to him. let me show you exactly what i mean and i want to ask you about it on the other side. >> part of the way to do is to not give tax breaks to companies that are shipping shops overseas. right now, you can actually take a deduction for moving a plan overseas. i think most americans would say that doesn't make sense and all of that raises revenue. >> you said you debt a deduction for take ago plant overseas? look. i've been in business 25 years. i have no idea what you're talking

obama in last week's debate. joining us to talk about the numbers our political editor paul steinhauser. that's pretty stuff. they know how to go there. are we talking about much of a balance here after the debate? >> well, one poll does indicate a small bounce. take a look at this, suzanne. this is from gallop. they do that daily tracking poll. it's a seven-day poll. look what they did. they split it up in two. on the left column, those are the three days prior to last week's debate in denver. you see according to gallop, among registered voters nationwide, the president a five-point advantage. with the sampling area, look at the right. those are october 4th through 6th. the three days after the debate, and gallop indicates it's all tied up there. yeah, i mean, this one poll does indicate that mitt romney did get a bounce. of course, we're going to see a lot more national polls, a lot more polls. most importantly in the battle ground states later today, tomorrow, and wednesday ask thursday. keep your eyes on those state polls. they're really the most telling. suzanne. >> al
